Cell (920) AMERICAN RED CROSS HELPING FAMILIES OF EASTERN WI IN THEIR EFFORTS TO
SELF-RECOVERY
Service Center in St. Nazianz open to families with disaster-caused
needs. Five days after devastating winds and hail hit eastern communities of Wisconsin, the American Red Cross continues to help families whose homes were hardest hit in meeting their basic disaster-caused needs. American Red Cross caseworkers are currently meeting one-on-one with families to assess their immediate needs and provide assistance that may include food, clothing, housing assistance, medication, and much more as they begin their family recovery plans. In addition to material losses, families are left
with emotional trauma caused by Fridays’ storm. In response, the Red Cross has deployed mental health
volunteers to help victims cope with this disaster.
Disaster Mental Health Services workers are licensed mental health
practitioners trained to recognize the emotional impact of a disaster on those
affected by the disaster as well as disaster workers. They offer information and
help educate people on the emotional impacts and how to cope with the disaster. Individuals or families who have disaster-caused needs or may want information are encouraged to call one of the toll-free Red Cross Help Lines at 1-877-822-4207 (for Calumet and Manitowoc Counties) or 1-888-231-3590 (for Marquette, Waushara, and Winnebago Counties). The help lines are staffed from 8:30a.m. -7:30 p.m., seven days a week. Callers may leave a message after hours and calls will be returned promptly. It is estimated that American Red Cross efforts for this disaster will be at least $150,000. To help victims of this and other disasters, call 1-800-HELP NOW (1-800-435-7669). People may also contribute to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund by sending a check to their local Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013. Internet users can make a secure online credit card donation by visiting www.redcross.org. The American Red Cross is a not-for-profit, non-governmental agency. All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary gifts of time and money from the American people. ### |
